Yacht in distress: dramatic search for 64-year-old sailor ends between Langeoog and Spiekeroog
Coast Guard discovers the capsized yacht
On Wednesday afternoon, the Coast Guard received a distress call from a 64-year-old sailor. The man reported that his yacht had capsized between the East Frisian islands of Langeoog and Spiekeroog. The Coast Guard immediately launched a search and rescue operation.
Several Coast Guard vessels and a helicopter were involved in the search. After several hours, the capsized yacht was discovered. However, there was no sign of the sailor.
Sailor found deceased
The search for the sailor continued throughout the night. On Thursday morning, the sailor was found deceased in the water. The Coast Guard has not yet released the man's name.
The cause of the yacht capsizing is still under investigation.
