Salzburg AG CEO Baminger on the Energy Transition
Salzburg AG CEO Leonhard Schitter on the energy transition in Austria
Salzburg AG CEO Leonhard Schitter has called for a faster expansion of renewable energies in Austria in order to achieve the climate targets. In an interview with the “Salzburger Nachrichten”, Schitter said that the expansion of photovoltaics and wind power must be accelerated significantly. “We need a PV offensive and a wind power offensive,” Schitter demanded. He also called for a faster expansion of the electricity grid and a reduction in bureaucracy. “We need to make it easier to build new power lines and wind turbines,” Schitter said.
Schitter also criticized the federal government's plans to phase out coal-fired power plants by 2030. He said that this would lead to a supply gap and higher electricity prices. “We need a realistic phase-out path for coal-fired power plants,” Schitter said. He also called for a stronger focus on energy efficiency.
Salzburg AG is one of the largest energy suppliers in Austria. The company operates hydropower plants, wind farms, and photovoltaic systems. Salzburg AG also supplies electricity, gas, and heat to customers in Salzburg and the surrounding area.
