Lille beats PSG in a thrilling encounter
Lille upset the odds to defeat Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in a pulsating Ligue 1 encounter at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Burak Yilmaz and Jonathan David scored the goals that earned Lille their first league victory against PSG since 2019.
PSG, despite taking an early lead through Neymar, were unable to maintain their momentum as Lille fought back with determination and resilience. Lille's victory has thrown the Ligue 1 title race wide open, with just five points separating the top three teams in the standings.
The match started with a bang as PSG took the lead in just the eighth minute through Neymar. The Brazilian forward latched onto a pass from Lionel Messi and coolly slotted the ball past Lille goalkeeper Leo Jardim.
Lille responded well to the early setback and began to dominate possession. They were rewarded for their persistence in the 28th minute when Yilmaz equalized with a superb header from a corner kick.
The second half was a tense and evenly contested affair, with both teams creating chances to win the game. Lille eventually found the winning goal in the 88th minute when David pounced on a loose ball in the PSG penalty area and fired home.
Lille's victory is a major upset and a huge boost to their title hopes. PSG, on the other hand, suffered their first league defeat of the season and will be looking to bounce back quickly when they face Nantes on Wednesday.
