Multi-Hour Operation: Successful Search for Sailing Boat in the German Bight
Coordinated Rescue at Sea
After several hours of searching, a sailing boat was successfully located and assisted by the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) on Sunday afternoon in the German Bight. The boat, with two people on board, had been reported missing after failing to return to its port of origin on Saturday evening.
Extensive Search Operation
The extensive search operation involved several rescue cruisers, lifeboats, and helicopters from the DGzRS and the German Navy. The search area was narrowed down based on the last known position of the sailboat. The rescue teams faced challenging weather conditions with strong winds and choppy seas.
After several hours, a DGzRS helicopter located the missing boat approximately 20 nautical miles west of the island of Heligoland. The sailboat had suffered engine failure and was drifting at sea. The two people on board were reported to be unharmed.
Rescue and Towing
A DGzRS lifeboat was dispatched to the scene and took the sailing boat under tow. The boat was then escorted back to its home port. The rescue operation lasted several hours and involved the coordination of multiple rescue units.
The DGzRS praised the efforts of all involved in the successful search and rescue operation. The quick response and effective coordination of the rescue teams ensured the safety of the two people on board the sailing boat.
