Mbappé reportedly demands Deschamps’ dismissal
French superstar’s relationship with manager sours amid national team turmoil
Mbappé’s future with Les Bleus uncertain
Kylian Mbappé has reportedly demanded that Didier Deschamps be sacked as manager of the French national team, according to multiple sources close to the team.
The relationship between the two men is said to have broken down irretrievably after a series of disagreements over tactics and team selection.
Mbappé is believed to be unhappy with Deschamps’ decision to play him out of position on the left wing, and also with the manager’s decision to leave him out of the starting line-up for the World Cup final against Argentina.
The 24-year-old is also said to be unhappy with Deschamps’ handling of the Karim Benzema situation, and believes that the Real Madrid striker should have been recalled to the squad for the World Cup.
Mbappé’s demands have put the French Football Federation (FFF) in a difficult position, as Deschamps is under contract until 2026.
However, the FFF is said to be aware of the growing unrest within the squad, and is considering its options.
If Deschamps is sacked, it would be a major blow to the French national team, who are one of the favorites to win the next European Championship in 2024.
It would also be a major embarrassment for the FFF, who have been keen to portray a united front in the wake of their World Cup defeat.
Mbappé’s future with the French national team is now uncertain, and it is possible that he could retire from international football if Deschamps remains in charge.
