Thousands of fools celebrate in Mainz

The traditional carnival parade in Mainz attracts millions of visitors

On Monday, the traditional Carnival parade in Mainz started again after a two-year break due to the Corona Pandemic. Around 500,000 spectators cheered at the colorful spectacle. According to the police, the parade took place peacefully.

The Mainz Carnival parade is one of the largest and most famous carnival parades in Germany. This year, around 10,000 active participants marched through the city center in around 120 groups. Among them were 28 floats.

Elaborate costumes and floats

The participants wore elaborate costumes and presented imaginative floats. Many of them were critical of current political issues. For example, there were floats that criticized the war in Ukraine or the energy crisis.
