Simeone Wants Atletico to Build on Momentum After PSG Win
Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has challenged his team to build on their impressive victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone wants his team to build on the momentum of their impressive victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League when they face Celta Vigo in La Liga on Saturday.
The Rojiblancos produced a stunning performance to beat PSG 1-0 in the first leg of their last-16 tie on Tuesday, with Antoine Griezmann scoring the only goal of the game.
The win was Atletico’s first in the Champions League since September and it was a major boost to their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals for the first time since 2017.
Simeone was delighted with his team’s performance against PSG, but he knows that they cannot afford to rest on their laurels.
“We played a great game against PSG, but we cannot stop now,” Simeone said.
“We have to keep working hard and keep improving if we want to achieve our goals this season.”
Atletico are currently fourth in La Liga, four points behind leaders Barcelona.
They will be looking to close the gap on the leaders when they face Celta Vigo on Saturday.
Celta Vigo are ninth in La Liga, but they have won their last two games and will be confident of causing Atletico problems.
Simeone is expecting a tough game, but he is confident that his team can get the win.
“Celta Vigo are a good team and they have been playing well recently,” Simeone said.
“But we are confident that we can get the win if we play to our potential.”
