Mainz: Carnival canceled for 2022 due to COVID-19 Pandemic

Mainz Carnival, one of the largest and most popular Carnival celebrations in Germany, has been canceled for 2022 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision was made by the Mainz Carnival Association (MCV) in consultation with the city of Mainz and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The MCV said in a statement that the decision was made "with a heavy heart" but that the health and safety of the public must come first.

The MCV said that it explored all possible options for holding a safe Carnival celebration, but that it ultimately decided that it was not possible to do so given the current pandemic situation.

The MCV said that it is working on plans for a smaller, alternative event in 2022 and that it is hopeful that the full Carnival celebration will be able to return in 2023.

The cancellation of Mainz Carnival is a major blow to the city and the region. The event typically attracts over 500,000 visitors and generates millions of euros in revenue.

The cancellation is also a disappointment for Carnival enthusiasts, who look forward to the event all year long.

However, the MCV said that it is confident that the Carnival spirit will live on and that the event will return stronger than ever in 2023.
