Horrific incident in otherwise quiet London neighborhood
A man has died and a woman was left with serious injuries following a shooting on a quiet residential street in south London.
The Metropolitan Police were called to reports of a shooting in Streatham, south London, shortly before 10pm on Sunday, August 14.
Officers found a man in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Woman in her 20s taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries
A woman in her 20s was also found at the scene with gunshot wounds. She was taken to a south London hospital where she remains in a critical condition.
The Met Police said her injuries are potentially life-changing.
Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots
Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots in the area at the time of the incident.
One witness, who did not want to be named, told the BBC: "I heard about five or six gunshots. It was really loud. I looked out of my window and saw a man lying on the ground and a woman screaming."
Police launch murder investigation
The Met Police have launched a murder investigation and are appealing for witnesses.
Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a horrific incident that has resulted in the tragic loss of a young man's life and left a woman with very serious injuries.
"We are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information to contact us."
