Derry to meet Drogheda in FAI Cup Final
Candystripes book final berth after victory over Treaty United
Derry City have booked their place in the FAI Cup final, which is due to take place on November 13, after a dramatic 2-1 victory over Treaty United on Sunday at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium. The Candystripes will now face Drogheda United in the final, who defeated Cork City 1-0 in the other semi-final.
Derry survive scare
Despite taking an early lead through Jordan McEneff, Derry were forced to come from behind after Treaty equalised through Darragh Rainsford just before half-time. The Candystripes were awarded a penalty in the 70th minute, which was converted by Matty Smith, to send them through to the final.
Derry will be hoping to win their first FAI Cup since 2018, while Drogheda will be looking to win the trophy for the second time in their history.
Reaction
"We're delighted to have reached the final," said Derry manager Ruaidhri Higgins. "It was a tough game, but we showed great character to come from behind and win. We're now looking forward to the final and we'll be doing everything we can to win the cup."
"We're disappointed to have lost, but we can be proud of our performance," said Treaty manager Tommy Barrett. "We gave Derry a good game and we were unlucky not to get a draw. We'll take the positives from this performance and we'll be back stronger next season."
